A leader in the media and journalism industry is hiring a Sports General Assignment Reporter in San Francisco, CA for a full-time position, remote-based in San Francisco.

Sports General Assignment Reporter Requirements:

  • 3–7 years of experience reporting in a fast-paced digital or print sports newsroom

  • Strong sports news judgment with the ability to identify compelling, timely, and exclusive story angles

  • Proven ability to report and write accurately on deadline while juggling multiple assignments

  • Experience covering major metro sports markets, teams, leagues, or high-profile athletic programs

  • Strong sourcing skills with athletes, coaches, agents, league officials, and front-office personnel

  • Proficiency with WordPress or a similar CMS

  • Strong understanding of social media and SEO best practices

  • On-camera experience preferred; comfort discussing and presenting stories on video and social platforms

  • A strong social media presence or following is a plus

Sports General Assignment Reporter Responsibilities:

  • Deliver breaking news and enterprise sports coverage across the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond

  • Write fast, clean, and compelling copy aligned with the Post’s distinctive voice and style

  • Cover major professional and collegiate teams, league developments, and high-impact sports stories

  • Identify stories with national relevance, viral potential, or exclusive angles

  • Develop and maintain sources across teams, leagues, athletic departments, and sports organizations

  • Monitor social media, press releases, and league activity for breaking news and scoops

  • Collaborate closely with editors and fellow reporters to ensure coordinated coverage

  • File real-time updates across web, social, mobile, and video platforms

  • Uphold the highest standards of journalistic accuracy, fairness, and integrity
