A leader in the media and journalism industry is hiring a Senior Courts & Crime Reporter in San Francisco, CA for a full-time position, remote-based in San Francisco.

Senior Courts & Crime Reporter Requirements:

  • 7–10 years of experience reporting in a fast-paced digital or print newsroom

  • Exceptional news judgment with the ability to identify exclusive and high-impact story angles

  • Proven ability to report and write accurately under tight deadlines while juggling multiple stories

  • Experience covering major metro areas, ideally including courts, crime, public safety, or general assignment

  • Strong sourcing skills with a relentless approach to newsgathering

  • Proficiency with WordPress or similar CMS platforms

  • Strong understanding of social media and SEO best practices

  • Familiarity with court filings, public records, and legal documents

  • On-camera experience strongly preferred; comfort presenting stories on video and social platforms

  • Spanish or additional language fluency is a plus

Senior Courts & Crime Reporter Responsibilities:

  • Lead coverage of breaking and exclusive courts, crime, and public safety stories across the San Francisco Bay Area

  • Deliver fast, accurate, and authoritative reporting that drives audience engagement

  • Write clean, compelling copy aligned with the New York Post and California Post voice and style

  • Identify stories with national relevance, viral potential, or exclusive angles

  • Develop and maintain sources across law enforcement, courts, emergency services, and local communities

  • Monitor court filings, public records, and social media for breaking news and scoops

  • Collaborate closely with editors and fellow reporters to ensure coordinated, comprehensive coverage

  • File real-time updates across web, social, mobile, and video platforms

  • Uphold the highest standards of journalistic accuracy, fairness, and integrity
