General Assignment Reporter Perks:

General Assignment Reporter Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in a fast-paced digital or print newsroom

  • Strong news judgment with the ability to identify compelling, high-impact angles

  • Proven ability to report and write accurately on tight deadlines

  • Experience covering major metro news, including public safety or general assignment

  • Proficiency with WordPress or a comparable CMS; strong SEO and social media skills

General Assignment Reporter Responsibilities:

  • Report and write breaking and exclusive news stories across Los Angeles

  • Deliver fast, clean, and compelling copy aligned with a distinct editorial voice

  • Develop and maintain strong sources across city agencies, courts, and local communities

  • Monitor public records, court filings, and social platforms for scoops and trends

  • Collaborate with editors and fellow reporters to ensure coordinated, real-time coverage
