Profiles is actively seeking a Medical Writer / Editor  with an Advanced Degree for a freelance opportunity who will assume responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the healthcare content created by a well known Health & Wellness agency in the Philadelphia, PA area.

This individual will create and vet copy that can pass the rigorous scrutiny of our clients' medical-legal committees, as well as the FDA. The Medical Writer / Editor works with other capabilities to ensure that medical information is correctly conveyed within the creative execution, is appropriately referenced, and is compliant with client and FDA standards.

Responsibilities of the Medical Writer / Editor:

  • Collaborate with Creative and Account Services to formulate medically sound marketing content.
  • Review and occasionally write medically relevant, topical, and organized content for all types of marketing materials.
  • Review completed, referenced documents to ensure passage in the client's regulatory approval process.
  • Educate staff and freelancers on clients' regulatory standards.
  • Stays abreast of the medical literature related to client's brands and maintain knowledge of competitors.
  • Educate staff and freelancers on disease states, product information, and claims limits.
  • Develop research reports for client presentations, strategy presentations, and new business proposal.
  • Support the work of the copywriters by providing guidance on or identifying appropriate literature references.
  • Evaluate the utility of sources supplied by the client and other agencies.
  • Support and defend editorial content before the client's regulatory review committees.
  • Vet, query, and address medical and regulatory feedback from the client's regulatory review team with the internal team.
  • Maintain medical library of reference documents.

Requirements of the Medical Writer / Editor:

  • Master's or doctoral level (MD, DO, PhD) degree in healthcare or communication.
  • 5+ years of experience in medical writing or editing (may include advanced degree experience).
  • Familiarity with clinical trials and pharmaceutical marketing regulations.
  • Familiarity with medical-legal review processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical marketing formats.
  • Ability to search for, read, and interpret appropriate medical literature.
  • Ability to effectively convey medical literature content to other capabilities.
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must know how to use Microsoft Word software.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft PowerPoint desirable.
