Description

A major scientific association seeks to hire a Media & Communications Manager to join their team in downtown Washington DC!

The Media - Communications Manager is responsible for managing media relations and the implementing member communication strategies, including strategic content development and management of multiple communications vehicles. 

Media - Communications Manager Responsibilities:

  • Drive diverse and growing communications strategies and tactics that inform and engage membership and enhance awareness of and participation in programs.
  • Develop, write, and edit content for member communications and media relations. Manage internal review for member- and public-facing communications.
  • Write, edit, and vet press releases, statements, opinion-editorials, talking points, and other communications, working collaboratively with internal partners.
  • Manage the press program for the annual meeting, highlighting newsworthy science for the media through press conferences, news releases, lay summaries, direct reporter pitching, and more.
  • Work with other departments to execute multichannel strategy and messaging for various initiatives and events.
  • Implement strategy for media relations efforts, including outreach around advocacy and public policy issues, and advising on other priorities (including scientific journals).
  • Monitor effectiveness of member communications, advocacy communications, and media strategies and messages, and reports regularly on outcomes and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Supervise three staff members through coaching and performance management.
  • Delegate effectively, communicates expectations clearly, and provides professional development opportunities.

Media - Communications Manager Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related degree.
  • 4 years of professionally relevant subject matter experience.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Proven track record of managing a results-oriented media relations programs, strategic organizational communications, superb verbal, written, and editing communication skills, and publications development.
  • Experience with public affairs and advocacy communications, particularly with membership driven associations is preferred.
